Microplastics in human body: accumulation, natural clearance, and biomedical detoxification strategies

This review summarises how microplastics enter and accumulate in the human body through air, water, and food, and critically assesses the limited evidence on natural clearance mechanisms including excretion and immune clearance. It also evaluates emerging biomedical strategies—such as chelation-inspired and microbiome-based approaches—for enhancing microplastic removal from tissues.

Optimizing the ratio of coomassie and methylene blue dyes for a cost-effective and rapid staining of PET, PVC, PP, PS, LLDPE, LDPE, and HDPE

Researchers optimized a low-cost, fast-staining method using two common lab dyes — Coomassie brilliant blue and methylene blue — to identify seven major plastic types including PET, PP, PS, and polyethylene under a microscope. This combination outperformed the widely-used Nile red dye in staining effectiveness and is far cheaper, making it more practical for large-scale microplastic detection studies.
