Review highlights how chronic inflammation, altered immune cells, microbiome disruption, nutritional deficiencies and obesity-related conditions may combine to make infections more severe in children DOHA, Qatar — A critical review published in the Asian Journal of Research in Infectious Diseases, titled “Severe Childhood Obesity, Immune Dysfunction, and Elevated Infection Risk: A Critical Review,” brings attention to an often-overlooked consequence of severe childhood obesity: its potential to disrupt immune function and increase vulnerability to infectious disease. The review, authored by Ashraf Soliman, Fawzia Alyafei, Nada AlAaraj, Noor Hamed and Shayma Ahmed of the Department of Pediatrics at Hamad Medical Corporation in Doha, Qatar, synthesizes evidence linking severe pediatric obesity with chronic inflammation, altered immune responses, gut microbiome disruption, nutritional deficiencies and poorer outcomes from infections including influenza and COVID-19.

Some countries have 2 letter country codes while others have full names. it would be good to harmonize to the full country name if possible.

It would be great to have easy to find open access badges and review by a community member badges or the like so that people can easily see that status near the title or something like that.

It would be awesome to have a citizen science portal for people to review, help curate, improve article data. Showing a complete list of articles that haven't yet been reviewed so people know which they can tackle. A progress bar showing how many have been reviewed by the community and how many are left to go. How many people are working on the project and how many articles people have reviewed. It would be great to also have a projects thread for the community where people can write abotu the project they are working on, and people can join the project to help out. List of goals, and discussion forum for people to work on.

It would be great to be able to slice papers by detection method, e.g., - Raman - Py GC/MS - Microscope - etc.
