Summary
The data extraction framework for this systematic review standardizes how study characteristics, microplastic properties, pesticide classes, reproductive biomarkers, and tissue bioaccumulation data are collected from eligible human and animal studies. Standardized extraction across heterogeneous studies is a critical methodological step toward building a coherent evidence base for microplastic-pesticide interaction effects on reproductive health.
Data extraction materials and procedures for the systematic review. This component will include the standardized data extraction form and supporting documentation used to collect information from eligible studies. Data extraction will be conducted independently by two reviewers using a piloted extraction template. Extracted variables will include study characteristics (authors, year, country, and study design), population or animal model characteristics, exposure assessment methods, type and characteristics of microplastics (polymer type, size, shape when available), pesticide class and compound, exposure levels or concentrations, biological matrices analyzed, reproductive biomarkers assessed, evidence of tissue bioaccumulation, statistical effect estimates, and adjustment for potential confounding variables. Discrepancies in extracted data will be resolved through discussion and verification of the original study reports.
