Microplastics in the environment
AI summary Read the abstract
This Croatian review article summarizes the widespread distribution of microplastics across marine, freshwater, and terrestrial ecosystems, describing their physical persistence, resistance to biodegradation, and the analytical methods used to characterize them. The work highlights microplastics as a serious environmental threat to both plant and animal life.
Mikroplastika predstavlja veliki problem u okolišu zbog svojih karakteristika poput izuzetne čvrstoće i izdržljivosti, dugotrajnosti, otpornosti na vanjske uvjete i biorazgradnju.

This Croatian-language overview covers the sources, properties, and environmental distribution of microplastics, defined as particles from 5 mm down to 100 nm. It discusses how their physical and chemical characteristics make them persistent in aquatic environments, where they pose the greatest risk to living organisms through direct ingestion.
