Summary

The COVID-19 pandemic caused a spike in single-use plastic waste, worsening water pollution from microplastics in oceans and seas. This paper proposes ecological disposal strategies such as eco-bottles to responsibly manage plastic waste and reduce its environmental impact.

The generation of solid and medical waste, especially single-use plastics, has increased exponentially as one of the most obvious environmental consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, this situation has generated serious impacts on health, the economy and society worldwide. Water pollution by microplastics is directly related to the inappropriate disposal of single-use plastics, affecting the conservation of ecosystems in seas and oceans. Finally, it is sought to identify that it is necessary to promote ecological strategies for the disposal of single-use plastic waste, as well as Eco-bottles, in this way it contributes to a large extent sustainable development and encourages people to take responsibility for the waste that each one generates in their day to day. Thus, this article answers the following problem question: ?Are eco-bottles an efficient alternative to mitigate the environmental impact caused by the improper disposal of single-use plastics? which has increased exponentially from the situation of mandatory confinement due to COVID-19.
