Ekosistem di laut telah memberikan berbagai layanan kepada manusia sehingga membuat mereka saling berhubungan. Banyak yang percaya bahwa dengan adanya penyebaran pengetahuan di era globalisasi tentang problematika pencemaran sampah plastik dalam media sosial dapat mengurangi pencemaran sampah plastik di Indonesia, terutama di perairan Indonesia. Namun, penanggulangan sampah plastik di kelautan Indonesia tidak semudah yang dipikirkan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian hukum normatif yang berkonsentrasi pada kaidah-kaidah hukum yang telah eksis dan mengkaitkan hukum tersebut ke era globalisasi. Penelitian ini berfokus dalam menganalisis bagaimana efektivitas hukum lingkungan dalam mengurangi sampah plastik di lautan Indonesia pada era globalisasi dan peran pemerintah dalam mengurangi sampah plastik pada era globalisasi. Oleh karena itu, perlunya penyebaran kesadaran tentang pencemaran sampah plastik yang sedang terjadi di lautan Indonesia kepada masyarakat. Hukum Indonesia telah mencangkup peraturan yang mengatur tentang penanggulangan sampah plastik akan tetapi problematika pencemaran sampah plastik terus bermunculan di Indonesia. Meskipun begitu, pemerintah telah mengambil beberapa tindakan dalam penanggulangan sampah plastik untuk mengurangi pencemaran sampah plastik yang sudah ada di Indonesia.
