However, the persistence of plastics in both terrestrial and aquatic environments, coupled with their bioaccumulation in living organisms, underscores the urgency of identifying viable solutions. While various approaches show promise, further research is recommended, particularly in enzyme-assisted bioremediation, which may offer the most effective means of reducing plastic waste and its associated risks to both ecosystems and human health.
