Tracking of [ 14 C]Polystyrene Nanoplastics in Pregnant Mice (Adv. Sci. 32/2026)
Summary
Scientists used a special tracking method to follow tiny plastic particles (nanoplastics, which come from breakdown of everyday plastic waste) inside pregnant mice, and found that these particles travel through the mother's body and reach the interface between mom and developing fetus. This matters because it suggests plastics we're all exposed to daily could potentially reach a growing baby during pregnancy, though this study was in mice and more research is needed to understand what this means for human pregnancies.
