Hubungan Mikroplastik dan Kualiti Air di Sungai Melaka, Melaka, Malaysia

AI summary Read the abstract

Researchers surveyed microplastic abundance and physicochemical water quality across nine stations in the Melaka River, Malaysia, finding an average concentration of 569 particles per liter. Black fragments of polyamide (PA) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) dominated, with total suspended solids correlating with fiber microplastic levels.

AI summary Read the abstract

Researchers analyzed the vertical distribution of microplastics in sediment cores from the Pulai River estuary in Johor, Malaysia, finding highest concentrations in surface sediments (0–5 cm) at 506 particles/kg and identifying PET as the dominant polymer (56%) with mostly blue-colored fibers and fragments, providing insight into microplastic sources and accumulation patterns in estuarine environments.

Microplastic Abundance, Distribution, and Composition in Sungai Dungun, Terengganu, Malaysia

AI summary Read the abstract

This study investigated microplastic occurrence in Sungai Dungun river in Malaysia, characterizing the particles by morphology, color, and polymer type. The detection of microplastics at all sampling sites in this Malaysian river confirms that freshwater contamination with plastic particles is widespread across Southeast Asia.

Spatio-Temporal Variation of Microplastic Along a Rural to Urban Transition in a Tropical River in Selangor Malaysia

AI summary Read the abstract

Researchers surveyed microplastic contamination along an urban-to-rural gradient in Malaysia's Klang River and found widespread pollution across all six sampling stations, with HDPE, LDPE, polypropylene, and nylon fibers and fragments dominating — patterns pointing to urban runoff and industrial discharge as primary sources entering the Malacca Strait.

Analysis of the Relationship Between Microplastic Abundance and the Presence of Plastic Waste in the Mahakam River, Muara Kaman District

AI summary Read the abstract

Indonesian-language research linked the abundance of plastic debris in the Mahakam River to the concentration of microplastics in the water, confirming that larger plastic waste is a direct source of microplastic contamination in this river system. The study supports the importance of plastic litter control as a strategy to reduce microplastic pollution.

Abundance and Distribution of Microplastics in the Water and Riverbank Sediment in Malaysia – A Review

AI summary Read the abstract

Microplastic abundance and distribution were surveyed in the water column and riverbank sediments of a Malaysian river. Results showed microplastics throughout the river system, with fiber shapes dominating in water and fragments more common in sediments, reflecting contributions from domestic wastewater and plastic litter.
