Aluminum and microplastic release from reflective agricultural films disrupt microbial communities and functions in soil

Scientists found that reflective aluminum-coated agricultural films degrade in soil over time, releasing both aluminum and microplastics that disrupt soil chemistry and microbial communities important for nutrient cycling. This matters for food safety because these changes to soil health could affect crop quality and potentially introduce microplastics into the food supply.

A BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF HUMAN HORMONES IN CONSUMER NEUROSCIENCE AND HUMAN BEHAVIOR RESEARCH: TRENDS AND INSIGHTS WITH IMPLICATIONS FOR MARKETING

This bibliometric analysis of 218 articles found growing research interest in how human hormones like dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, and endorphins influence consumer behavior and marketing decisions. Despite the attention, the intersection of happiness hormones and marketing remains largely unexplored, with the United States leading publication output in this emerging interdisciplinary field.

Wastewater Reuse in the EU and Southern European Countries: Policies, Barriers and Good Practices

This paper reviews EU legislation on reusing treated wastewater and examines how southern European countries like Italy, Greece, and Spain are implementing these policies. While some progress has been made, the authors argue that current EU rules do not go far enough to encourage circular water solutions, particularly in overcoming regulatory and practical barriers. The review identifies both good practices and bottlenecks that prevent wider adoption of wastewater reuse across the region.

Changes in Stormwater Quality and Heavy Metals Content along the Rainfall–Runoff Process in an Urban Catchment

Researchers tracked how stormwater quality changes as rainfall travels through an urban catchment in northeastern Poland, from rooftops to storm drains to a receiving river. They found that heavy metal concentrations and other pollutants varied significantly depending on the collection point and rainfall characteristics. The study highlights how urban surfaces and drainage infrastructure influence the types and levels of contaminants that ultimately reach natural waterways.

Self-reported behaviours and measures related to plastic waste reduction: European citizens’ perspective

Researchers analyzed Eurobarometer survey data on European attitudes toward plastic waste and found that while citizens recognize plastic pollution as a serious environmental problem, concern does not consistently translate into reduced plastic use behaviors, with women, younger adults, and higher-income respondents being most likely to act.

Predictions of hazardous plastic waste amounts based on disposable face mask wearing habits

Researchers surveyed Lithuanian public attitudes toward face mask wearing during the COVID-19 pandemic and used the data to predict the amounts of hazardous plastic waste generated from disposable mask usage, finding a troubling proportion of the population resisted mandates despite infection control rationale.

ILLEGAL DUMPING OF END-OF-LIFE VEHICLE WASTE IN THE FOREST AREA NEAR KAUNAS CITY

Researchers investigated illegal dumping of end-of-life vehicle waste in forest areas near Kaunas city, Lithuania, finding that car dismantlers dispose of hard-to-recycle ELV components including polymer-rich shredder residues in secluded natural environments due to their negative market value.

Environmental Information: Different Sources Different Levels of Pro-Environmental Behaviours?

Researchers analyzed data from a Eurobarometer survey of all EU member states to examine the relationship between environmental information sources and the frequency of pro-environmental behaviors among EU citizens. Results showed television news was the dominant source (69.3%), and respondents performed an average of 4.2 out of 14 analyzed pro-environmental behaviors, with information source type associated with differing levels of behavioral engagement.

The Global Advanced Materials & Surfaces - GAMS International Conference 2022

This conference proceedings entry describes the development of bi-layered ZnO-Ni magnetic photocatalyst powder for use in repetitive water treatment cycles. Particles fabricated via magnetron sputtering onto NaCl templates produced open-shell structures with ZnO on one face and metallic Ni on the other, enabling magnetic post-treatment recovery. Under UV irradiation, the powder reduced Salmonella Typhimurium viability by over 98% within one hour and retained activity across 10 reuse cycles.
