Microplastics and nanoplastics in haemodialysis waters: Emerging threats to be in our radar

This study investigated whether kidney dialysis patients are being exposed to micro and nanoplastics during their treatments, since they process 300 to 600 liters of water per week. The researchers found several potential contamination points in the dialysis process and estimated that even with 99% filtration, plastic particles could still reach patients' kidneys. This is especially concerning because dialysis patients already have compromised kidney function and may be more vulnerable to plastic particle exposure.

Nanomaterials' Multigenerational Effects by Single and Joint Exposure in Non‐mammalian Models

This review examines multigenerational effects of nanomaterials, including nanoplastics, studied in non-mammalian models such as nematodes, water fleas, and zebrafish. Researchers found common effects across generations including altered life-history traits, oxidative stress, and transfer of nanomaterials to offspring. The study highlights that co-exposure to nanoplastics alongside other pollutants can produce either synergistic toxicity or alleviating effects depending on the combination.

Obtaining polyhydroxyalkanoate and plastic film formation from the microalgae Chlorella vulgaris under light stress and nitrogen deficiency

Researchers evaluated polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) production and plastic film formation from the microalgae Chlorella vulgaris under conditions of constant light stress, photoperiod variation, and nitrogen source deficiency. The study measured cell concentration and productivity parameters to identify optimal cultivation conditions for generating biopolymers from microalgal biomass.
