ClearOxidative stress dynamics in Hyalella azteca under sub-chronic exposure to naturally aged polypropylene microplastics
Researchers exposed the freshwater amphipod Hyalella azteca to naturally aged polypropylene microplastics for up to 14 days followed by a 7-day recovery period. They found that the highest concentration caused significant mortality, while lower concentrations induced oxidative stress markers after 14 days of exposure. After the depuration period, biochemical damage levels were reduced, demonstrating that the organisms can partially recover once removed from the contaminated environment.
Photosynthetic modulation and oxidative stress in Raphidocelis subcapitata exposed to environmentally relevant concentrations of a ketoconazole based commercial formulation
Researchers exposed the freshwater microalga Raphidocelis subcapitata to environmentally relevant concentrations of the antifungal drug ketoconazole, finding a dual toxicity response where low concentrations stimulated photosynthesis while higher concentrations triggered oxidative stress and morphological changes.
Leachate as an alternative culture medium for microalgae growth: Perspectives and challenges
Not relevant to microplastics — this review focuses on growing microalgae in landfill leachate as a way to produce biofuels and treat wastewater, with only incidental mention of contaminants in that leachate.
Mesocosmos como modelo experimental na avaliação da ecotoxicidade aquática
This Portuguese-language text is not about microplastics specifically — it describes mesocosm-based experimental systems for assessing aquatic ecotoxicity. Mesocosms are widely used to test microplastic effects on aquatic organisms under semi-realistic conditions.
