Rize İli Atık Su Arıtma Tesislerinde Mikroplastik Konsantrasyonlarının Belirlenmesi

AI summary Read the abstract

Researchers assessed microplastic contamination at urban wastewater treatment plants in Rize, Turkey, across wet and dry seasons, identifying fibers and PET as the most prevalent type and polymer respectively, with textile-derived fibers as a major source and no statistically significant seasonal variation in overall microplastic density.

Determination of Seasonal Microplastic pollutıon Variation in Aquatic Environments: Case Study from İskenderun Technical University Pond

AI summary Read the abstract

Microplastic abundance in a university pond in Turkey ranged from 0.5 to 10.8 particles per liter and varied significantly by season, with rainfall and stormwater runoff being the main drivers of contamination. Black polyester and polypropylene fibers under 1 mm were the most common type found. The study demonstrates that even small, semi-enclosed inland water bodies can accumulate significant microplastic loads and that seasonal monitoring is needed to accurately characterize contamination levels.

Spatiotemporal Patterns of Microplastic Pollution in a Freshwater Reservoir: Polymer and Morphological Evidence from Borçka Reservoir (Türkiye)

AI summary Read the abstract

Researchers conducted year-round sampling across Borçka Reservoir in Türkiye, finding microplastics in both water and sediment year-round — with fragments and fibers dominating, PETG and PP as the main polymers — and confirming the reservoir functions as a persistent microplastic sink driven by land-based inputs including packaging, textiles, and fishing activities.

Abundance and seasonal variation of microplastics in the effluents of a wastewater treatment plant: A case study in Greece

AI summary Read the abstract

Researchers monitored microplastic concentrations in the effluent of a Greek wastewater treatment plant over one year. The study found that fibers were the predominant form, and microplastic concentrations increased notably following rainfall events and windy conditions, underscoring the importance of accounting for weather variables in future microplastic monitoring strategies.

Microplastics in an urban wastewater treatment plant: The influence of physicochemical parameters and environmental factors

AI summary Read the abstract

Microplastics were quantified across four treatment stages of an urban wastewater treatment plant, finding an overall 90.3% removal efficiency with fragments and fibers dominating the final effluent, and identifying rainfall events and seasonal variation as significant factors affecting MP concentrations. The study highlights the importance of environmental variables when monitoring MP removal at WWTPs.

Microplastics in Mediterranean coastal wastewater treatment plants: Seasonal trends driven by tourism and weather conditions

AI summary Read the abstract

Researchers monitored microplastics at two Mediterranean coastal wastewater treatment plants in Spain, finding influent concentrations of 30-75 particles/L with seasonal peaks in warmer months, removal efficiencies of 73-86%, and significant correlations between microplastic concentrations and both temperature and precipitation, with polypropylene and polyethylene dominating polymer profiles.
