Summary

This study hybridized organically modified montmorillonite (MMT) clay with nylon 6, nylon 66, and fire retardants to produce polymer-layered silicate nanocomposites, characterizing their structure, mechanical properties, and fire retardancy. MMT was found to act as an effective melt-drip suppressant through a synergistic effect with the fire retardant additives.

Polymers

The organicallymodified MMT was hybridized with nylon 6, nylon 66 and fire retardants respectively. Their structures were characterized, mechanical testing was performed and the fire retardancy of this kind of polymer layered silicate nanoplastics was observered. Although the LOI of MMT/PA is not very high, but it can solve the problem of drippingmelt effectively. It shows that MMT is a kind of drippingmeltsuppressant. There is a kind of synergistic effect of mechanics and fire retardancy between MMT and other fire retardants, which improve the nylon′s properties in many aspects. This kind of synergistic effect is universal. These results will benefit the research of other nanoplastics.
