Data for publication: WHEN FLUORESCENCE IS NOT A PARTICLE: THE TISSUE TRANSLOCATION OF MICROPLASTICS IN DAPHNIA MAGNA SEEMS AN ARTIFACT
Summary
Researchers conducted a replication study and found that apparent tissue translocation of microplastics in the water flea Daphnia magna was likely a fluorescence artifact rather than true uptake — an important methodological finding that calls into question some earlier studies reporting microplastic internalization in small organisms.
We conducted a replication study for Rosenkranz et al. (2009) (https://doi.org/10.1897/08-559.1).Our data consists of CLSM images of Daphnia exposed to 20 nm and 1000 nm polystyrene particles with a number of conditions and specimen treatments.Publication available under: https://doi.org/10.1002/etc.4436
