This Turkish-language review covers microplastic sources, environmental distribution, analytical methods for detection, and known effects on the environment and human health. It notes the enormous and growing scale of plastic production (9 billion tonnes to date) and the challenge of addressing microplastic pollution.

Macro Problems Caused by Microplastic Waste: A Sustainable Management Approach

AI summary Read the abstract

This Turkish-language review (with an English abstract) provides an overview of microplastic pollution as an emerging global environmental and human health problem, covering sources, distribution, and the need for sustainable management strategies including recycling and reducing single-use plastics. While primarily a summary of existing evidence, it emphasizes that regulatory action is urgently needed to tackle the scale of microplastic contamination across marine, freshwater, and terrestrial ecosystems.

Microplastics: Environmental Occurrence and Analytical Challenges

AI summary Read the abstract

This comprehensive literature review examines how microplastics — plastic particles between 1 micrometer and 5 mm — enter and move through ecosystems, and what analytical methods are used to detect them. Despite being found throughout the world, the environmental consequences and toxic effects of microplastics on living organisms are still not fully understood.
