While microplastic research has focused heavily on marine environments, agricultural soils are also significantly contaminated, with plastics accumulating from irrigation water, sewage sludge application, and plastic mulch films. Soil remediation strategies for microplastic pollution are urgently needed given that contaminated farmland can transfer particles directly into food crops and groundwater.
