Summary

This campaign summary describes an Atlantic research expedition aboard the sailing vessel Tara in 2021 that studied the influence of the Amazon River outflow on Atlantic microbiomes and microplastic distribution. The leg examined both plastic debris and the microbial communities colonizing plastic fragments.

Study Type Environmental

This leg was mainly dedicated to study the effect of the Amazon River over the Atlantic Microbiome. Besides, as rivers act as an important road for plastics getting into the ocean, we also focused on the study of the microplastics and those microbes living the plastic fragments (constituting the plastisphere).
