En todo el mundo se emplean a diario objetos de plástico de un solo uso desde que amanece hasta que anochece, mismos que se desechan tan pronto como se utilizan y que ocasionan un serio problema ambiental y de salud. Esto se debe al uso indiscriminado de los materiales plásticos con los que están hechos y que fueron inventados para durar mucho tiempo y que lamentablemente se usan —sin conciencia— por muy poco. Desafortunadamente muchos de éstos terminaran tirados en las calles, ríos, mares y campos de cultivo causando problemas ambientales, así como enfermedades graves en humanos y animales como alteraciones hormonales y distintos tipos de cáncer. Es claro que el reciclaje no ha sido suficiente para resolver estos problemas, se requiere hacer algo más y sobre todo en México.
