This study systematically analyzed how microplastics interact with and disrupt the coagulation-coupled ultrafiltration process used in seawater desalination pretreatment, identifying fouling mechanisms and performance impacts. As desalination becomes a critical freshwater source globally, understanding and mitigating microplastic interference in treatment processes is essential for producing drinking water free from plastic contamination.
