How can the fashion industry be sustainable? The use of immersive technology in fashion design for innovation, digital transformation, and sustainability
Summary
This study examines how immersive digital technologies can help the fashion industry adopt sustainable practices, exploring how digitised design and production processes can reduce environmental impacts including textile microplastic pollution.
The fashion industry is currently facing an increased pressure to adopt sustainable practices, and immersive technology can achieve this goal. This thesis explores how digitised processes can contribute to sustainability by streamlining the design and development phase of the fashion supply chain. Furthermore, importance is placed on defining and highlighting the necessity of sustainable efforts in combating fashion over-production and over-consumption by examining Anthropocene, the effects of COVID-19, and environmental pollution.
