The COMMON project aims at applying the Integrated Coastal Zone Management principles to the marine litter management, improving the environmental performance of 5 pilot coastal areas in Italy (Maremma and Salento), Tunisia (Kuriat Island and Monastir) and Lebanon (Tyre Coast National Reserve), testing a model that could be transferred to the whole Mediterranean area. The monitoring activities were focused on the analyses of marine litter in key compartments: beaches, sea surface, and ingestion of microplastics by fish species.
