CamelVR: A Virtual Reality Serious Game for Understanding Camel Plastic Ingestion in Desert Ecosystems
AI summary Read the abstract
Researchers tested a virtual reality game, played from a camel's viewpoint, to teach 72 participants about plastic pollution affecting camels in desert areas. Compared to watching a video, both interactive VR versions led to better knowledge, empathy, and intention to act on environmental issues, with no added benefit from extra immersive features.
Plastic pollution in desert ecosystems is perceptually remote from daily life, making causal understanding difficult. This study presents CamelVR, a virtual reality serious game organised from a camel's first-person perspective, integrating perceptual constraints, delayed consequences, and traceable feedback. A between-subjects experiment with 72 participants compared Immersive Interaction (IM), Basic Interaction (BM), and Video Documentary (VD), assessing immediate post-experience knowledge performance, presence, empathy, and pro-environmental behavioural intention, supplemented by semi-structured interviews. Both interactive VR conditions showed significantly higher scores than passive viewing across all four outcomes (all p < 0.001; ε² = 0.590–0.683). No significant differences were found between IM and BM. Positive within-condition empathy–intention correlations were observed across all three conditions (ρ = 0.682–0.850). These findings suggest that interactive VR conditions were associated with stronger immediate cognitive and affective outcomes than passive viewing, while the combined IM-specific features did not yield measurable incremental benefits over BM.

CamelVR: A Virtual Reality Serious Game for Understanding Camel Plastic Ingestion in Desert Ecosystems
AI summary Read the abstract
Researchers tested a virtual reality game called CamelVR, which lets 72 participants experience plastic pollution from a camel's point of view in the desert. Compared to watching a video, interactive VR versions led to better knowledge, feelings of presence, empathy and intention to act on environmental issues, though a more advanced VR version performed no better than a simpler one.
«Let’s Go Deep into the Game to Save Our Planet!» How an Immersive and Educational Video Game Reduces Psychological Distance and Raises Awareness
AI summary Read the abstract
Researchers found that an immersive educational video game about plastic pollution effectively reduced psychological distance and increased awareness among players, suggesting that interactive media can be a powerful tool for environmental education beyond traditional climate change messaging.
Designing Educational Game to Increase Environmental Awareness
AI summary Read the abstract
Researchers designed an educational video game to raise environmental awareness about plastic waste and ocean pollution in Indonesian students. The game showed measurable improvements in environmental knowledge and pro-environmental attitudes among players.
Marine odyssey: a non-immersive virtual reality game for marine litter awareness / Hykarl Ukasyah Mohamad Azahar and Fadhlina Izzah Saman
AI summary Read the abstract
Researchers developed a non-immersive virtual reality game called 'Marine Odyssey' aimed at raising public awareness about marine litter and its impacts, using a Game Development Life Cycle framework to build an educational game-based learning tool.
Sensory Virtual Interaction Design Based on the Impact of Microplastics on Ecosystem
AI summary Read the abstract
Researchers designed a virtual reality interactive experience that communicates the impact of microplastics on ecosystems to audiences. Using immersive virtual environments to convey scientific information about microplastic pollution could improve public understanding and engagement with this environmental issue.
