Pemanfaatan Botol Plastik Bekas Sebagai Media Tanam Untuk Penghijauan Lingkungan Karah Rw 03
AI summary Read the abstract
A community project in Karah RW 03, Surabaya, turned 24 used plastic bottles into three vertical planting units for herbal gardens, placed in public spaces across three neighborhood blocks. Residents worked together on the project through meetings and hands-on building, which reduced household plastic waste and increased community involvement in local environmental care.
Accumulating plastic bottle waste in densely populated residential areas poses a major ecological challenge due to its non-biodegradable nature. This study aims to optimize the utilization of used plastic bottle waste into vertical planting media to support environmental greening initiatives in land-constrained areas. The method employed was Participatory Action Research (PAR), actively engaging the community of Karah RW 03 Surabaya through observation, interviews, outreach, and the collective fabrication and installation of Herbal Family Medicine (TOGA) planting units. The results demonstrated that this recycling intervention successfully repurposed 24 plastic bottles into three aesthetic vertical planting units strategically placed in public spaces across RT 01, RT 02, and RT 03. Beyond mitigating household plastic pollution, the project significantly heightened community awareness and participation in autonomous environmental management. In conclusion, applying reuse principles through vertical planting media crafted from plastic bottles proves to be an effective strategy for space efficiency and a sustainable ecological action at the local level.
