Pemberdayaan Masyarakat melalui Program Ecobrick sebagai Solusi Pengelolaan Sampah Plastik Berbasis Masyarakat di Dukuh Tegalrejo, Desa Karangpakel, Kecamatan Trucuk, Kabupaten Klaten

A community project in a village in Klaten, Indonesia, taught residents to turn household plastic waste into "ecobricks" (plastic packed tightly into bottles) instead of burning it. After training sessions, residents built an RT identity sign from the ecobricks, and organizers reported improved knowledge and skills in waste sorting and ecobrick making.

Plastic waste management in RT 20/RW 07, Tegalrejo Hamlet, Karangpakel Village, Trucuk District, Klaten Regency, remains an environmental challenge that requires continuous attention. The problem is reflected in the limited public awareness regarding waste sorting and the persistence of plastic waste burning practices that may contribute to environmental pollution. This community service activity aims to improve community knowledge, awareness, and skills in managing household plastic waste through the implementation of a participation-based ecobrick program. The activity was conducted using a Community-Based Participatory Approach consisting of four stages: preparation, education and socialization, collaborative ecobrick production with residents, and the inauguration, handover, and evaluation of the activity outcomes. Data were collected through participatory observation, activity documentation, recording of production results, and interviews with residents, youth organization members, and RT administrators. The collected data were analyzed using a descriptive qualitative approach. The results indicate that the program successfully improved community understanding of the importance of sorting plastic waste at the household level and enhanced technical skills in producing ecobricks according to recommended density standards. Community participation resulted in an RT identity nameboard made from ecobricks, demonstrating that plastic waste can be transformed into a functional and educational product. This program highlights the potential of ecobrick as a sustainable community-based plastic waste management model, although further programs require measurable evaluation instruments to assess long-term environmental impacts. Keywords: Ecobrick, Plastic Waste Management, Community Participation, Community Empowerment, Community Service.

Pengelolaan Limbah Plastik Berbasis Ecobrik Untuk Pemberdayaan Masyarakat Dan Keberlanjutan Lingkungan Di Nagari Lawang, Kabupaten Agam Sumatera Barat

Villagers in a small community in Indonesia learned to turn plastic trash into "ecobricks" — plastic bottles packed tightly with waste and used to build things like gate structures — as a hands-on way to keep plastic out of the environment for good. Since plastic can take up to 1,000 years to break down and often ends up polluting soil, water, and food sources, finding practical reuse methods like this helps reduce the buildup of waste that can contribute to pollution and health risks over time. The project also gave residents new skills and a small economic boost, showing that community-level action can support both a cleaner environment and public health.

Ecobrick Innovation For Plastic Waste Reduction And Community Environmental Awareness In Sijunjung

AI summary Read the abstract

Researchers in an Indonesian community turned plastic trash into "ecobricks" — plastic bottles tightly packed with non-recyclable waste — and used them to build garden features instead of letting the waste pile up or get burned. Beyond just cleaning up litter, the project got people thinking differently about their trash habits, showing that hands-on community projects can build lasting environmental awareness. Less loose plastic waste sitting around also means less of it breaking down into microplastics that can end up in soil, water, and eventually our food and bodies.
