Summary
Scientists found that tiny plastic particles (microplastics and even smaller nanoplastics) are being carried by wind currents all the way to the top of Mount Everest, one of the most remote places on Earth. This shows that plastic pollution has spread through our atmosphere so thoroughly that it can reach even the most untouched corners of the planet, meaning there's likely nowhere left that's truly free of these particles, including the air we breathe every day.
This repository contains the source data supporting the study “Persistent Influx of Atmospheric Microplastics and Nanoplastics to Mount Everest Driven by Large Scale Circulation.” It includes the source data underlying all main-text figures (Figures 1–4), together with the corresponding meteorological observations, microplastic measurements and particle-level information , and nanoplastic measurements. These datasets support the analyses of atmospheric microplastic and nanoplastic abundance, composition, seasonal variation, meteorological influences, atmospheric transport pathways, and regional deposition presented in the manuscript.
