In recent times, many microbes have been studied and reported to aid in digestion, boost immunity, promote food and nutritional security, and influence mental health of humans. Furthermore, microbes can produce biofuels, providing an alternative to fossil fuels that may contribute in the advancement and sustainable development in areas like green energy technology. Hence, identifying a set of microorganisms with definite characteristics is a significant step in developing novel technologies to explore and harness the potential of unseen organisms. The present chapter highlights the application of microbes in maintaining ecosystem balance, and human and animal health, industrial sector, climate change mitigation through microbial carbon capture, and as microbial solutions for plastic pollution mitigation. Such future research demands may provide a valuable insight on the scope and role of microorganisms in research advances relevant to environment and human health.
