This project examines the environmental ethics surrounding plastics and microplastics manufacturing by analyzing the environmental impacts of production, the regulatory frameworks governing plastic waste and emissions, and the ethical responsibilities of manufacturers, governments, and consumers. The study uses a literature-based analytical approach, drawing from environmental policy reports, regulatory frameworks, and scientific research on the fate and transport of microplastics in the environment. Ethical perspectives—including anthropocentric, biocentric, and ecocentric frameworks—are applied to evaluate how current manufacturing practices align with broader environmental stewardship principles. Preliminary findings suggest that existing regulatory structures often lag behind the scale and persistence of microplastic pollution, raising concerns about long-term ecosystem health and human exposure. The project highlights the need for stronger environmental governance, improved lifecycle accountability in plastics production, and the development of more sustainable material alternatives. Ultimately, this work contributes to the ongoing discussion about how ethical frameworks can inform policy and industrial practices to mitigate the environmental consequences of plastics and microplastics manufacturing.
