Summary
This review paper looks at how plant-based materials could replace traditional plastics in single-use medical products like gloves, syringes, and packaging. Since plastic waste from healthcare is a major environmental problem and may contribute to microplastic pollution that can end up in our bodies, switching to plant-derived, biodegradable materials could mean safer medical care with far less plastic waste. The findings suggest these plant alternatives show real promise, though more development is needed before they fully replace conventional plastics in hospitals.
The growing environmental concern in the traditional single‐use plastic in medical products has led to a search for sustainability alternatives. The significance of this study lies in its contribution to the advancement of sustainability practices in the medical industry by incorporating plant derivatives of single‐use materials. The findings show that plant derivatives have a significant potential and opportunity as a primary raw resource, serving as an alternative to traditional synthetic materials. This aligns with the worldwide efforts to shift the landscape of the economy towards sustainable practices.
