Avaliação do Ciclo de vida na Indústria Têxtil: Um Estudo Bibliométrico
Summary
A bibliometric analysis of life cycle assessment research in the textile industry identified three main research clusters covering sustainability, waste management, and direct environmental impacts including microplastic pollution. The study found that while interest in sustainable textile practices is growing, research specifically combining LCA with the textile industry remains limited.
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a tool that allows evaluating the environmental impacts of a product throughout its entire life cycle, from the extraction of raw materials to its final disposal. This methodology promotes sustainability in industrial sectors known for their high polluting potential, especially with regard to carbon emissions and water consumption. This study aimed to carry out a bibliometric analysis on life cycle assessment in the textile industry. The Scopus, Web of Science and SciELO databases were used, as well as theses and papers from specialized sources, during the period 2019 to 2025.The network mapping generated in the VOSviewer software identified three main interconnected clusters in the literature on the textile industry and its environmental impacts. The blue cluster is associated with sustainability and life cycle assessment, highlighting the environmental impact of textile production from the extraction of raw materials to disposal. The green cluster addresses waste management and the circular economy, emphasizing solutions to reduce waste and encourage the recycling and reuse of textile materials. The red cluster focuses on the direct environmental impacts of the textile industry, including microplastic pollution, dye toxicity, and high water and pesticide consumption in cotton production.Bibliometric analysis indicates that the transition to a more sustainable model in the textile industry is a central theme in recent research, highlighting the importance of strategies such as life cycle assessment and the circular economy. The research (the study?) revealed that the Scopus database concentrates the largest number of publications on the subject, however, studies that specifically address life cycle assessment in the textile industry are still limited, indicating this topic as promising for further research.
