AI summary Read the abstract
Indonesian researchers characterized plastic waste accumulating at Timur Port in Bangkalan, finding LDPE dominance at all sampling stations, and demonstrated that indigenous bacteria from salt-washing wastewater (bittern) achieved measurable plastic biodegradation with an average weight loss from 0.0019g to 0.0012g. This study highlights the potential of locally sourced microbial communities as cost-effective biological agents for reducing coastal plastic accumulation and associated microplastic fragmentation in harbor environments.
