AI summary Read the abstract
A bibliometric review of atmospheric microplastic contamination highlights cyclonic separators as a promising low-cost mitigation technology, with efficiency improvements achievable through parameter optimization. Evaluating these industrial separation devices for microplastic capture could provide scalable tools for reducing airborne plastic pollution at source.

Researchers reviewed how microplastics become airborne, travel long distances through the atmosphere, and eventually deposit in remote environments far from their source — suggesting that no ecosystem on Earth, including pristine wilderness, is fully protected from plastic pollution.
