Plastic, one of the most widely used polymers, has become a significant environmental concern due to its excessive consumption and improper disposal (Shah et al., 2008; Shahnawaz et al., 2019). Its slow degradation, lasting for centuries, contributes to pollution in land, air, and water, posing severe threats to ecosystems and biodiversity. The increasing generation of plastic waste demands effective management strategies to mitigate its long-term environmental impact (Rosalyn & Kurniawan, 2019). However, the continued reliance on single-use plastics due to convenience, lack of awareness, and limited access to alternatives remains a major obstacle to sustainable change. As future educators, pre-service teachers hold a unique position in promoting sustainability and environmental responsibility. Their awareness, attitudes, and behaviors regarding plastic usage can influence the next generation, fostering responsible consumption and waste reduction. By integrating environmental education into school curricula and leading by example, they can help students understand and adopt sustainable practices. However, many pre-service teachers may lack formal training in environmental issues, highlighting the need for targeted education and awareness programs. Addressing plastic pollution requires a multifaceted approach, including reducing plastic production, encouraging responsible consumption, and improving recycling infrastructure. With proper training and engagement, pre-service teachers can play a pivotal role in fostering a greener future and ensuring sustainability becomes a fundamental aspect of education.
