Summary

This study used synchrotron X-rays to investigate the effect of precipitates on microplasticity in a Mg-7.3Sn-3.4Zn-0.04Na alloy, finding that precipitates increased twin number density and critical resolved shear stress for twinning. The results showed that the Orowan model underestimates observed twin strengthening, suggesting that twinning dislocations are superdislocations composed of multiple individual twinning dislocations.

In this research the effect of precipitates on the microplasticity of the Mg-Sn-Zn alloy was investigated. at in the presence of the precipitates, the twin number density and the critical resolved shear stress of twin increased. Orowan model underestimates the observed twin strengthening. This signifies that twinning dislocation is a superdislocation composed of several twinning dislocations.
