Tiny plastic particles called nanoplastics are showing up in the tiny creatures (called meiofauna) that live in mangrove sediments, which are important nursery habitats for fish and shellfish. Since these small organisms sit near the bottom of the food chain, this contamination could work its way up to the seafood many people eat.
