Sustainable Innovation Practices in the Green Cosmetic Sector: A Brand Perspective
Summary
This study examined sustainability innovation practices in the green cosmetics sector from a brand perspective, focusing on how companies integrate sustainable packaging, ingredient sourcing, and microplastic-free formulations. The analysis found that leading green cosmetic brands are adopting holistic sustainability strategies beyond just product formulation changes.
The green beauty industry has seen a significant rise in popularity largely due to the increased awareness of the consumers towards the protection of the environment, ethical sourcing, and health-conscious consumption. From the perspective of a brand, sustainability is no longer just about the product formulation but also goes beyond to innovation practices which include packaging, supply chains, marketing communication, and corporate governance. This research investigates the ways in which cosmetic brands use sustainable innovations as part of their core strategies to gain a competitive advantage in the long run. The paper, through the use of secondary data from industry reports, brand disclosures, and prior empirical studies, discusses the main innovation activities such as eco-friendly ingredient sourcing, biodegradable packaging, cruelty-free testing, and circular business models. One of the major findings is that brands who are transparent about their sustainability narratives and have measurable environmental commitments are in a better position to gain consumer trust and brand loyalty. This research serves as a bridge between sustainability and branding literature by pointing out the pivotal role of innovation in synchronization of environmental responsibility with market performance in the green cosmetic industry.
