Microplastic Research Should Embrace the Complexity of Secondary Particles
Summary
This viewpoint argues that microplastic research has focused too much on simple virgin plastic particles rather than the complex secondary particles formed by weathering in real environments. The authors call for studies that better reflect the diversity of microplastic particles as they actually occur in nature.
