Summary

This Japanese study used a high-resolution 3D ocean circulation model combined with Lagrangian particle tracking to analyze microplastic transport dynamics in Hiroshima Bay. Results showed that estuarine circulation patterns, seasonal river flow, and sea surface cooling controlled microplastic distribution and accumulation hotspots.
