Visual Detection of Microplastics Derived from Plastic Mulch in Soil
Summary
This preliminary study used visual examination to detect microplastic particles derived from plastic mulch films in soil aggregate fractions of different sizes. Plastic fragments were identified at multiple aggregate size classes, indicating integration of mulch-derived particles into soil structure. The work develops simple visual screening methods for detecting plastic contamination in agricultural soils.
