The Plastiverse, an ecosystem of software, data, and tools for accelerating the plastic pollution research community

Zenodo (CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research) 2022
Win Cowger, Scott Coffin

Summary

The Plastiverse is a new online platform designed to centralize and connect the growing collection of software tools, databases, and research resources for the global plastic pollution research community. By making these resources more accessible in one place, the platform aims to accelerate scientific progress and support evidence-based policy decisions on plastic pollution. The project reflects the research community's commitment to open science and collaboration.

The plastic pollution research community is collaborative and prioritizes open science and access to their research and research products. The Plastiverse was created as a one-stop-shop for unifying the online resources for researchers and connecting researchers to each other. Living evidence products like this are critical for evidence based decision-making on plastic pollution. The Plastiverse is on the web currently hosted at [http://plastiverse.org](http://plastiverse.org/) and the broader vision for the Plastiverse is an ecosystem of connected tools including the Microplastics Data Portal, ToMEx, Open Specy, Trash Taxonomy, and others. We will lay out this vision during this presentation, seek feedback from the audience, and are looking for researchers who would be interested in collaborating with us to see it to fruition.
