Summary
This review examined the use of advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) to degrade and remove microplastics from surface waters, ocean waters, soils, drinking water, and wastewater. AOPs represent a promising technological pathway for eliminating microplastics at treatment facilities, which is critical given that conventional systems fail to fully prevent microplastic entry into drinking water and food sources.
