Engineering and Architecture in the northern part of the State of Mexico
Summary
This is a book of academic proceedings from a Mexican technology institute covering engineering and architecture research topics. It does not contain a specific research abstract focused on microplastics or environmental contamination.
Engineering and Architecture in the northern part of the State of Mexico” aims to disseminate works in the areas of Engineering (Electronics, Mechanics, Chemistry and Materials) and architecture, generated by academics from the Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Jocotitlan. As in all higher education institutions, the documentation and publication of the most outstanding results of recent work that are the result of the natural and daily work of academic life, are part of the continuous work that is carried out, in addition to the already so well-known teaching. Student participation is reflected in the presence of their authorship in several chapters that are integrated into this Handbook; supporting the professional training of those who are the origin of education. It can also be mentioned that the participation of collegiate bodies, identified as professors with a PRODEP profile and members of academic bodies within this Handbook, allows contributing to the institutional strengthening of the Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Jocotitlán. The content is intended for general and technical reading by anyone who is interested in the topic and also by those who can learn what this technology produces for the educational, industrial and research sectors.

The state of microplastic pollution in México: a review and evolving perspectives
A PRISMA-based review of microplastic research in Mexico documented growing contamination across marine, freshwater, and terrestrial environments, characterized the dominant polymer types and particle shapes, and identified major knowledge gaps needing attention in the Mexican context.
Evaluation of Water Quality and the Potential Ecological and Health Risk in the Cajititlán Lagoon
Not relevant to microplastics — this ecological study tracks physicochemical water quality parameters and heavy metal concentrations in a Mexican lagoon over 14 years to assess ecosystem health and human health risk, with no focus on plastic pollution.
Innovations In Environment, Health & Medical Research
This is a broad medical and environmental research textbook covering numerous topics including a chapter on microplastics in food; it is not a focused research study on microplastics but rather a general reference volume spanning many unrelated fields.
Microplastics research in Mexico (2015-2024) in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems: a summary of locations, media, characterization methods and findings
Researchers reviewed 38 indexed studies on microplastic contamination in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems across Mexico published between 2015 and 2024, finding research distributed across soils/sediments (34%), fauna (34%), water (24%), flora (5%), and air (3%). The review highlights substantial methodological variability across studies and calls for standardised protocols to improve comparability of Mexican microplastics research.
Toxic Legacies and Health Inequalities of the Anthropocene: Perspectives from the Margins
Not relevant to microplastics — this sociological paper uses case studies from Mexico and Italy to analyze how toxic waste dumping and industrial pollution create health inequalities in marginalized communities, without focusing on microplastics.
