Increasing the Efficiency of Recoveryand Finalization of Plastic Wastein a Company
Summary
This study evaluated and proposed improvements to plastic waste recovery and finishing processes in a manufacturing company, using continuous improvement methodologies. Efficient plastic waste recovery in manufacturing reduces both costs and the environmental release of plastic material that can eventually become microplastic pollution.
The efficiency of businesses is critical, as most companies are fighting high competition with a large range of similar products on an oversaturated market.Currently, no company can afford not to participate in continuous improvement. This happens in products, production processes, services, PR, marketing, economy, or management. In manufacturing companies, efficiency is characterized by shortened innovation cycles, high level of functionality, and wide range of product modifications [7][8][9].Further facts to be considered contain the application of scientific and technical knowledge in the construction of products, the use of new materials, and high level of services, high reliability, and short delivery times.Reduction of production of costs is oriented on savings in material, energy, personnel, maintenance, and wage costs.

Feasibility of Lean Manufacturing Kaizen Teams’ Approach to help the Plastic Manufacturing Industry with Continuous Improvement
This study assessed whether lean manufacturing kaizen teams could drive continuous improvement in plastic manufacturing companies, finding the approach feasible based on survey data from 217 employees. The paper focuses on industrial efficiency rather than environmental impacts of plastic pollution.
Challenges to Increase Plastic Sorting Efficiency
This paper reviews the current challenges and future opportunities for improving plastic sorting rates in waste management systems. Higher sorting rates are essential for increasing plastic recycling and reducing the amount of plastic that ends up fragmented into microplastics in the environment.
Analysis of Plastic Waste Processing Methods
This review summarizes global plastic waste production and recycling trends, arguing that the recycling industry must scale up urgently to address growing environmental contamination. Current recycling rates remain far below what is needed to prevent plastic pollution from continuing to accumulate.
Effect of embedding a sieving phase into the current plastic recycling process to capture microplastics
Introducing a simple dry sieving step between shredding and washing stages in plastic recycling facilities can capture 96–97% of microplastics generated during shredding, compared to the roughly 76% average removal achieved by conventional water-treatment coagulation methods applied after the fact. The study shows that preventing microplastics from entering wash water in the first place is far more effective than trying to remove them from water afterward. This straightforward process modification could significantly reduce the volume of microplastics that plastic recycling plants currently discharge into waterways.
Recycling and Reusing Strategies to Prevent Microplastic Generation: a Review
This review examines recycling and reusing strategies for plastic materials as a means of preventing microplastic generation, grounding the analysis in circular economy principles emphasizing resource efficiency through repair, reuse, and recycling. The authors evaluate current methodologies and propose strategies to reduce plastic waste degradation into microplastics, linking waste management practices to pollution prevention outcomes.
