Occurrence of PBDEs in car and airplane dust in Poland – exposure assessment and health risk characterization for selected age ranges
Summary
This study measured polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants in dust inside cars and airplanes in Poland and found that levels were below thresholds that would pose a health risk from dust ingestion for the age groups tested. While PBDEs are not microplastics, they are plastic-associated chemical additives, making this study marginally relevant to understanding human exposure to plastic-derived pollutants in indoor environments.
The levels of tested PBDE congeners measured both in car and aircraft dust did not indicate health risk for these selected populations resulting from ingestion of dust.
