Plastic Pollution of the Hydrosphere: the Fate of Plastic Debris in the Aquatic Environment and Its Impact on Wildlife
Summary
This study examines plastic pollution in aquatic systems, reviewing research conducted at Moscow State University's Department of General Ecology and Hydrobiology since 2016 on the fate of plastic debris in freshwater and marine environments. The authors focus particularly on experimental investigations of microplastic impacts on aquatic organisms across multiple biological levels.
The problem of plastic pollution in the aquatic systems is discussed. Since 2016 this problem has been studied at the Department of general ecology and hydrobiology of the Biological Faculty, Moscow State University. In particular, the impact of microplastics on aquatic organisms is being studied.
