El objetivo de la investigación fue caracterizar las publicaciones de contenidos ambientales abordados por medios digitales de la Provincia de Imbabura y las interacciones que estas generan. Se hizo un análisis de contenido a las publicaciones de diez (10) medios digitales de la Provincia y se cuantificó su nivel de interacción. Las plataformas más utilizadas por estos medios son Facebook, Instagram y Tik Tok. Los temas más publicados son la contaminación ambiental y la pérdida de biodiversidad, especialmente por los incendios de vegetación. En cuanto a los formatos, los creadores de contenido suelen usar videos cortos que facilitan la interactividad y los medios de comunicación no independientes prefieren transmisiones en vivo y publicaciones de imágenes con textos.
