Eco-Bricks from Plastic Waste: Toward Ensuring a Sustainable Circular Green Economy
Summary
This study proposes ecobricks — plastic bottles densely packed with used plastic waste — as a low-cost circular economy approach for plastic waste management that reduces microplastic generation by preventing plastic from degrading in the open environment.
Plastic waste is crucial in today's scenario, and the disposal of plastic waste is necessary to ensure healthy living for future generations. This research work proposes the design and making of ecobricks from plastic waste and their utilization in the real world. The ecobrick is essentially a plastic bottle that has been densely stacked with things that are made up of used or discarded plastic. Ecobricks are an efficient method of waste management at a low cost. In the construction of ecobricks, the net surface area of the packed plastic is drastically reduced to prevent it from degrading into toxins and microplastics. Ecobricks are used for making furniture, garden walls, and other structures. Ecobricks focus on the waste plastics that are being simply thrown away into the environment. The waste plastic, when thrown into the environment, will not get decay, and it is a source of pollutants. PET bottles are used for packaging waste plastics since they have good reliability and resistance against ultraviolet rays. This research work also focuses on indoor and outdoor structures made with ecobricks.
