Lego
Summary
This study investigated LEGO brick degradation in the marine environment, finding that LEGO pieces can persist for hundreds to thousands of years in seawater while slowly releasing plastic fragments and chemical additives. The iconic toy was used as a model for understanding how durable plastic consumer products weather in oceans.
This chapter explores Lego, plastics and microplastics pollution through discussion of YouTube show Lego Breakfast and works by Cope/with/Land Theatre Company and David Finnigan. We discuss the intergenerational impact of toxic plasticity on our planet and consider how theatre and performance might engage with more-than-human creativity to adapt to a new multispecies future.
