Summary

Researchers conducted a bibliometric analysis of 118 publications on acupuncture for allergic rhinitis indexed in the Web of Science core collection from 1988 to 2022, using CiteSpace software to map publication trends, active countries, institutions, authors, and keywords. They found that China was the most prolific country, research output showed a fluctuating upward trend, and mechanistic studies of acupuncture's effects represent a key future research direction.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to explore the development trend and knowledge graph of acupuncture in the treatment of allergic rhinitis using bibliometric methods. Methods: The literature related to acupuncture treatment of allergic rhinitis in the Web of Science core collection database was searched, and CiteSpace 6.1.R1 software was used to analyze the annual publication trend, country, institution, author, cited author, and keywords of the literature. Results: A total of 118 articles on acupuncture in the treatment of allergic rhinitis were searched from January 1, 1988 to January 1, 2022. China and RMIT are the most active countries and institutions, respectively; “Allergy” is the most published magazine; Brinkhaus and Bousquet are the most published and cited authors, respectively; The key word is “allergic rhinitis”, which is most commonly used; China, Germany, and South Korea have done more research on acupuncture for allergic rhinitis than other countries. Conclusion: At present, research on acupuncture in the treatment of allergic rhinitis is mainly in China, and the number of published papers is fluctuating. The research hotspots focus on treatment methods and preventive treatment. At the same time, the cooperation of various research teams needs to be strengthened, and the mechanism of action of acupuncture in the treatment of allergic rhinitis may be the development trend in the future.
