Case Studies of Knowledge Maps
Summary
This chapter presents case studies demonstrating how knowledge mapping techniques combined with AI tools can be applied in open schooling contexts to address real-life sustainability issues, using the CARE-KNOW-DO principles to structure learning activities for teachers, students, and community members.
Abstract The chapter six presents three learning objectives: Understand how mapping techniques can be combined and applied in open schooling contexts, especially in addressing real-life sustainability issues supported by the CARE-KNOW-DO principles. Explore the various activities and mapping techniques, including the use of AI tools and AI assistant apps, utilised by teachers, students, and community members in these case studies. Evaluate feedback from participants to discern the benefits and challenges of these approaches, and discuss how they can transform teaching, research, and learning practices.

A self‐reported instrument to measure and foster students' science connection to life with the CARE‐KNOW‐DO model and open schooling for sustainability
Researchers developed and validated a self-reported instrument to measure students' connection to science using the CARE-KNOW-DO model combined with an open schooling approach for sustainability. The study involved students working on real-world environmental problems including microplastic pollution alongside families and scientists. Evidence indicates that this approach can strengthen young people's engagement with science and sustainability topics.

Real action based on search solve create and share (SSCS) model to improve sustainability awareness of junior high school students
Researchers implemented a real-action project using the Search-Solve-Create-Share (SSCS) learning model with an education for sustainable development approach to improve sustainability awareness among 7th-grade students in Siak, Riau Province, Indonesia. A quasi-experimental design comparing SSCS-taught and control classes found the model effective at enhancing student understanding of local environmental issues including water and air pollution.
